Built by F.W. Woolworth, Winfield Hall in Glen Cove was built in 1916. Woolworth founded a "five and dime" store that eventually became a merch-andising empire. Winfield Hall is more like the grand Newport palaces than most typical Long Island mansions. It has a sweeping view of the Long Island Sound.
The driveway is a mile long ellipse (circle). It has 56 rooms including a dining room that has 2 huge chandeliers and furniture with flower patterns, a kitchen with a walk in refrigerator that can store food for over 100 people, a 20 foot long stove, and a 10 foot walk-in safe to hold the mansion's silverware. Also inside the house is a $2,000,000 pink and beige marble staircase.
Outside the house you can find both a swimming pool and a tennis court. On the north side of the house there is a formal garden that needed 24 workers and gardeners to care for the wide variety of plants. In the middle of the garden, there is a fountain with a boy statue that is holding a dolphin. Around the fountain, there are two gazebos, which are outside sitting areas.
